Education Ministry Tasked To Explain Expired University Courses
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa has tasked the Ministry of Education to explain reports that some public universities are teaching expired and unaccredited courses at the expense of the students and parents.
The matter came up when a Ugandan student applying for a Masters Programme in an institution in the United Kingdom was denied admission on grounds that the course had been phased out in Uganda because it had not been accredited for years.
MPs blamed the regulators of higher institutions, National Council for High Education (NCHE) for not delivering on its mandate by effectively monitoring and supervising the institutions of higher learning.
