Government Begins Massive Land Titling In Kikuube District
The Government, through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, has rolled out a programme to have land titled in Kikuube and other 15 districts under the Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project (CEDP).
Under this program 930,000 land titles will be issued to locals in the 16 selected districts. The government of Uganda secured additional funding from the International Development Agency (IDA) for the Project
Under the Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project (CEDP), the government will support locals to acquire 22,000 land titles at a subsidized 85,000 shillings which covers the application, surveying and the land title fees. The project officially begins on 24th February 2023.
The 16 districts covered under the project are: Kikuube, Oyam, Maracha, Apac, Ibanda, Sheema, Ntungamo and Isingiro. Others are: Soroti, Serere, Bukedea, Namutumba, Luuka, Mayuge, Jinja and Kamuli.
The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has embarked on the Rapid Physical planning appraisal process which will aid the land adjudication and certification process.
During a meeting at Kikuube C.O.U Main Hall, Maria Nanteza, an Environment Officer at the Lands Ministry asked area land committee members to ensure that the process is transparent.
The Kikuube Resident District Commissioner,
Amlan Tumusiime, welcomed the project, noting that it will help secure individual land rights and also minimise land grabbing in the area.
The Principal Land Registrar at the Masindi Zonal Land Office, Victoria Namugambe, was concerned that some area land committee members have been conniving with land grabbers to oppress the locals.
The Kikuube District Woman Member of Parliament, Florence Natumanya, asked the district administrators to allocate funds for the district land board to enable it effectively executes its duties.
The Competiveness and Enterprise Development Project also supports six local administrative units in Kyangwali, Kabwooya, Kiziranfumbi, Bugambe, Buhimba and Kikuube Town Council.
