How Uneducated Women Have Tapped Into Tourism In Bwindi

Several women in the Kanungu district especially around Bwindi national park have spent 14 Years tapping and reaping from the tourism industry.

The majority of these have never been to school. They however say that the need to earn money has seen them learn skills and language to talk to tourists. They have also made it a personal initiative to conserve the site for tourists. These women have been engaged in handicrafts.

They make things like shoes, clothes, baskets, and others. They target tourists that continue to flock to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. These women are united under their organization Ride for a Woman and have been together for 14 years.

Their failure to go to school has not hindered them from making ends meet. These have been forced to learn at work as English is the only way to communicate with their intended clients, Subsequently, these women now boast of improved literacy in the region.

These have now embarked on conserving the environment as well as protecting the species which they say is the reason they are in business. This is a ride for as ride for women members to celebrate 14 years of existence. They gave thanks to god in a church service that was attended by thousands of their members and well-wishers.
