Over 200 Pilgrims From Gulu Arrive In Kampala
By John Baptist
Leadership at St. Peter's Church of Uganda in Naguru warmly welcomed over 230 pilgrims from the Gulu Archdeaconry and the Diocese of Northern Uganda in the Gulu District. Reverend John Musa, the Vicar of St. Peter's Church of Uganda Naguru, received the pilgrims.
These pilgrims embarked on their journey from Gulu District on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, covering a distance of 275 kilometres with over 10 stopovers along the way.
Joy and jubilation filled the air at St. Peter's Church of Uganda in Naguru as Anglican and Catholic pilgrims from the Gulu Archdeaconry and the Diocese of Northern Uganda arrived.
During the 275-kilometre journey from Gulu District to Namugongo on May 19th, 2024, the pilgrims encountered a sad moment as they lost one of their companions in Bombo due to illness.
Upon their arrival, the weary pilgrims were warmly greeted by Reverend John Musa Onen, the Vicar of St. Peter's Church of Uganda in Naguru, along with a group of Christians.
Speaking to the media, Reverend John Musa Onen expressed immense joy at hosting this year's pilgrims, marking the 5th time they've hosted pilgrims from various parts of the country.
He thanked the residents of Nakawa, Naguru, and the Christians of St. Peter's Parish Naguru for their support towards this year's pilgrimage.
Among the pilgrims were leaders from Gulu District, including a member of parliament, who shared their experiences from the journey.
They also highlighted some challenges encountered during the pilgrimage.
COU Family TV interviewed several pilgrims to gauge their sentiments about the journey. While some described it as exhausting, others shared their motivations.
Uganda Martyrs Day 2024 will be commemorated on Monday, June 3rd, honouring the young men who sacrificed their lives for their faith between 1885 and 1887, under the reign of Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda Kingdom.
