Stake Holders Want Climate Change Financing Prioritized
Development partners and donors have been advised to consider giving climate change finance grants rather than concessional loans.
Many developing countries continue to face challenges arising from climate change and yet little financing is done to curb the vice.
Now stake holders want all forms of finance from donors-directed climate change to come without extra costs as this makes all efforts to curb climate change more unattainable.
Climate change in developing countries is attributed to deforestation, encroachment on swamps, and degradation among others.
These activities have seen developing countries like Uganda faced with disasters like landslides, and floods among others which often lead to loss of lives and property.
Stakeholders believe there’s a lot that needs to be done if this is about to change
Joy Akoli, a representative from Global Right Alert believes the government has geared some efforts towards combating climate change. She however emphasizes the need to promote the use of renewable energy among the members of the public.
Akoli highlights the need to work towards achieving sustainable development goals with respect to human rights and calls for putting in place laws to allow for the utilization of natural resources
Much as the government is concerned about the effects of climate change, there seems to be little being done to avert the situation.
This is often reflected in the budgets directed toward the fight against all forms of activities that lead to climate change.
The Terego District woman MP, ROSE OBINGA noted that the financial cost to mitigate climate change is high. She wants ordinary people to be empowered and encouraged to take a direct role in curbing environmental degradation.
Sustainable development goal number 13 aims to combat climate change and its impacts by taking urgent action.
