Thousands Flee Their Homes As Fighting Intensifies
More than five thousand people (5,000) people have camped at Karugutu primary school in Ntoroko district after fighting broke out between the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces and the ADF rebels in the district.
The locals say they heard bullets in the morning and people shouting
that rebels from the Democratic Republic of Congo had invaded the area.
‘’We were sleeping in the house then I heard people out making noise,
when I asked them they said rebels have entered and are in Uganda,
they said they had captured two men and were asking them where the
barracks is.’’. ‘’We heard bullets when we were sleeping but when we moved out, we saw
people running so we also ran, we have not eaten and neither have we
bathed, we are in the bad condition.’’
Another resident says that the rebels who were dressed in black
clothes and speaking Swahili were randomly shooting at the civilians
and ordering them to flee their homes.
Sedrack Bwambale the Principal Town Agent of Karugutu Town Council
says that currently they are registering all residents who have
pitched camp at the school and added that more are still fleeing.
The villages of Kasozi, Kitambala, Kibuku Central and Kayanja were the
most affected villages by todays fighting.
RTD Maj Edward Mugabirwe, the Ntoroko district Resident Commissioner confirmed the incident saying one civilian was killed on spot by the
rebels while 14 rebels had by the time of filing this story been killed.
