Youth In Bugisu Region Cautioned Against Irresponsible Use Of Social Media
Youths in Bugisu Sub-region have been cautioned against the irresponsible use of new communication technology enablers such as social media through which some of them soil the image of Uganda abroad.
The caution was made during the pass-out of patriots of Nakaloke Secondary School and Nakaloke Islamic Schools at Nakaloke in Mbale City.
Hajat Nankya Masitula Nsigo, the Regional Coordinator of the Patriotism Corps in the Bugisu Sub-region, was concerned that many young Ugandans were spreading harmful information on social media and writing lies and half-truths about Uganda and its national leaders.
The youths are the most active group that has adapted to the use of new communication technology, especially social media for sharing information of all types.
However, social media can also be harmful in many ways, especially when used irresponsibly. This is the caution that has been given to young people in Masaba land or Bugisu sub-region during a just concluded patriotism training at Nakaloke in Mbale City.
According to Hajat Nankya Nsigo Masaitula, the regional coordinator of the Patriotism Corps in the Bugisu sub-region noted that some youths and other learned Ugandans use social media to soil the image of Uganda to fulfill their selfish motives and also work with the enemies of Uganda who don’t wish the country well.
Hajat Nankya, who was speaking during the pass out of over 500 student patriots of Nakaloke SS and Nakaloke Islamic schools in Mbale City, also urged teachers to play their cardinal role of providing an equitable education to all students without segregation based on gender, religion or otherwise.
She also encouraged parents to fulfill their roles in raising responsible children by taking them to school and providing all the necessary tools for learning, including scholastic materials, and also ensuring that the children stay in school for as long as possible to enable them to tackle the challenges of life.
John Rex Achilla, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner (RCC) who was the chief guest at the patriots pass-out ceremony, encouraged youths and learners to embrace patriotism in order to promote love amongst themselves and co-exist with others in peace.
